Your first steps in
getting started at Southwest:
- File an application in the Admissions and Records Office.
- Submit $5.00 application fee.
- Complete admission and testing requirements.
- Complete New Student Orientation (required of new, full-time,
degree-seeking students.)
- Review the College’s Academic Calendar or Schedule of Classes for registration dates, times and
locations.
- Meet with an academic advisor to:
- Discuss Goals
- Select Major
- Select courses for the term
- Choose class schedule for the term.
- Register on-line using My.Southwest, call TRAVIS at (901) 333-4REG, or come
to the College at dates, times and locations listed in the schedule of
classes and have courses loaded into the computer system.

First Semester Courses
- College Success Skills -Student Academic Success Seminar (ACAD
1100)
This course is required of all first-time, full-time, degree-seeking
Southwest students. These seminars are designed to assist students in
making the transition to college during the freshman year. Students
are introduced to college functions and resources. Additionally, the
student receives survival skills necessary to prepare for career
preparation, academic expectations, time management, test anxiety,
life outside the classroom, as well as personal values and
relationships. Although this course is not required of all students,
it is highly recommended that new students register for
the course.

Scheduling Classes
- Schedule classes for the time of day when
you are most alert.
- Build your schedule of classes around
family and work commitments or according to what best suits your
lifestyle.
Southwest offers classes that meet on
Monday/Wednesday/Friday, on Tuesday/Thursday, on weekends, or 7 weeks
(called Fast Track).
