Mr. Sylvester Tate grew up in Somerville Tennessee, went to Fayette-Ware High School, Memphis Area Vo-Tech, State Technical Institute and Memphis State University. He is a retired Navy Veteran where he was an Aviation Avionic Engineer.
He has spent the last 20 years as an entrepreneur, starting a business to create jobs and career opportunities for students graduating from school with technical majors. His business assists students in obtaining job opportunities despite their lack of experience.
He has served on many boards such as the Mid-South Minority Business Council, Pink Palace Museum, Workforce Investment board and Southwest Tennessee Community College Foundation Board.
His most recent accomplishment includes being selected for the Rising star award by the Tennessee Small Business office for the work he is doing for the Tennessee Education Lottery. He recently accepted the appointment of Alumni President of Southwest Tennessee Community College.

I pride the expertise I learned from the knowledgeable instructors and the hands-on training that gave me the technical skills I need to pursue my dream of entrepreneurship. I was afforded the opportunity to tune into the experience of many professionals that were available for assistance long after graduation. Southwest was a major part of my foundation during my initial career path.”
Mr. Tate and his wife Tausha are the parents of son, Sylvester Tate II, and daughter Jada Nicole Tate.
