Robert
is the Executive Director of Communications and Marketing at Southwest joining
the College in July of 2007. He has a wealth of experience in broadcast and
print journalism, marketing, print and online publishing, public relations, and
mass media communications management. His main responsibility includes using
comprehensive communications and marketing strategies to enhance public
awareness of the programs and services available at Southwest. He manages a
broad range of initiatives in marketing and advertising, communications (print
and web-based), media relations and community relations, while serving as senior
editor for College print and electronic publications geared to reach internal
and external audiences.
Robert has bachelors and master’s degrees in journalism from Northwestern
University, Evanston, Illinois along with completing the Advanced Management
Development Program from the Graduate School of Business at Harvard University.
He is the former Executive Editor of Black MBA Magazine and Black IT
Professional Magazine and has served as Editor and chief editorial consultant
for these national print publications. As Vice President of Editorial
Administration and Editor at IMDiversity, Inc. in New Orleans, he was
responsible for executive online content on the Web sites and editorial content
and personnel management for THE BLACK COLLEGIAN Magazine. The magazine is the
nation's premier and largest career and self-development publication for
African-American university students. It is distributed semi-annually to more
than 122,000 collegians on over 800 college and university campuses in the
nation. His vast major media credits include stints as a former Network/National
Television News Correspondent for ABC Network News in New York and Chicago News
Bureaus; an award-winning (New Orleans Press Club) television news reporter for
the top-rated TV station in New Orleans-WWL TV (CBS); a former news writer for
the CBS owned and operated TV station in Chicago, WBBM-TV; a community columnist
for The Times Picayune newspaper in New Orleans-the largest daily newspaper in
Louisiana; a former marketing research analyst for Leo Burnett Advertising in
Chicago-one of the largest advertising agencies in America; chief communications
administrator for two universities in New Orleans; and former television public
affairs and education talk show host on Cox Cable TV in New Orleans.
Robert is the recipient of numerous awards and has served as the Vice President
and Acting President of the Board of Directors of the New Orleans Media Center
and as a board member of the Southeast Louisiana Chapter of the American Red
Cross. In his spare time, he enjoys contemporary jazz, the fine arts, is a
history and museum buff, sports-especially the NFL and NBA--and naturally is an
avid reader of current events and philosophy.
Robert, a Chicago native, and his wife Prudence are the proud parents of a grown daughter, Marissa and a grown son, Robert, II.
