A Chance To Dance Set at STCC

Dance Works, Inc., a classical ballet company housed at the Union Avenue
Campus of Southwest Tennessee Community College, is conducting itsChance To Dance Summer Program Monday through Friday, July 9-August 3.  Classes will be held in D-Building, Room 215. The junior program forages 7-13 will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 10-August 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The senior program for ages 9-19 with previous experience or permission of the Director, will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, July 9-August 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Karen Zissoff is the executive and artistic director for Dance Works, Inc. She said 
A Chance To Dance is aimed at introducing youth to the arts. The program is sponsored in part by the Greater Memphis Arts Council, the Alcoa Foundation, Northwest Airlines and the Memphis City Schools Board of Education-Kid's Express program.

This annual intensive educational summer program will offer various idioms of dance study. Guest artists will teach classical ballet, African dance, jazz, creative movement and character dance.

Dance Works, Inc., is based at STCC's Fine Arts, Language and Literature Department. The dance company formed a partnership with the College for the purpose of assisting with the ongoing efforts to extend cultural opportunities into 
the community. The program offers graded courses in classical ballet which follow the Royal Academy of Dancing Syllabi.
