STCC's CIW Courses Develop Internet Skills and Expertise;
The Computer Resource Center (CRC) at Southwest Tennessee Community College, an authorized training provider for the Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) program, now offers CIW courses that are structured to develop notable expertise for Information Technology (IT) professionals in Internet, Web and e-business technologies.
Julia Atkinson is an instructor and marketing specialist at the CRC. She said the center offers technical certifications that are designed to validate professional expertise and demonstrate professional dedication. "Expertise and dedication are both essential characteristics for companies to identify when reviewing the applications of job candidates," Atkinson explained. "The CIW certification validates that this professional is an expert in the integration of multiple technologies ensuring the professional will succeed in any IT environment."
Atkinson added that many companies in the marketplace today have IT systems comprised of multiple hardware and software platforms. She said the commitment of corporate America to expand the use of technology makes it imperative that professionals be knowledgeable of all IT systems if they expect to be successful in managing them.
She noted the CIW courses incorporate both core skills and specific job training related to many platforms, such as Cisco, Microsoft and Novell. The courses are designed to ensure CIW professionals are capable of implementing the most complex Internet, Web and e-business initiatives.
The CIW certification courses are receiving high marks from corporate executives. Jerry Baird is president and CEO of ProsoftTraining.com. He made the following observation about the program: "What sets the CIW certification apart from other designations is an advanced level of Internet and e-business skills, including server administrator, Internetworking and online security. These are skills that are not available through any other designation. By combining a networking and technical skill set with advanced Internet technologies expertise, IT professionals gain a strong platform to perform a wide range of responsibilities in the industry, and to distinguish themselves significantly from their peers."
