STCC's Nursing Department Set for Site Visit by
Accrediting Board; Public Participation is Needed
The Department of Nursing at Southwest Tennessee
Community College will receive its Site Visit from the National League
for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) next week. This important
accreditation session is set for Tuesday, October 16, through Thursday,
October 18. Dr. Shiphrah Williams-Evans, Chair and Professor of the STCC
Nursing Department, said public participation plays a crucial role in
this three-day visit by the NLNAC.
"We need people from every segment of the
community to participate in the Site Visit," Dr. Williams-Evans
emphatically stated. "This is an excellent opportunity for the
community to see how we are preparing our students to meet the health
care needs of the 21st Century. I am issuing a community alert. Please
come out!"
The STCC Nursing Department is located on the
Union Avenue Campus, at 301 Walnut, Linden and Walnut. The accreditation
sessions will start at 8 a.m.
Earlier this year, the Tennessee Board of Nursing
gave the STCC Department of Nursing its full approval. Members of that
board reviewed all aspects of program-policy development, curriculum
development, recruitment of qualified faculty and staff, and the
purchasing of state-of-the-art equipment.
The STCC Department of Nursing was established in
1979. STCC has developed formal partnerships with the nursing programs
at The University of Memphis, Baptist College of Health Sciences, Union
University, and the College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee
Health Sciences Center.
