Will Give Overview of E-Commerce Curriculum
Southwest Tennessee Community College will sponsor a luncheon at the
Fayette County Career Center, 121 W. Court, Somerville, Tennessee, at
noon, Friday, February 15. Representatives from Southwest will make a
presentation on the Fayette County E-Commerce Program during the luncheon.
This event is free and open to the public.
The following administrators will represent the College at the luncheon:
Jim Willis, vice president for Continuing Education and Workforce
Development; John Kirk, vice provost, Macon Cove Campus; and Bettie
Abernathy-Phillips, the College's Webmaster and an instructor in the
Business and Career Studies Department. She spearheaded the efforts to
develop the E-Commerce curriculum.
Southwest developed this innovative E-Commerce curriculum specifically for
Fayette County and the Fayette County Career Center. Classes are
tentatively scheduled for 6-8 p.m., Monday, February 25. This pilot
program is limited to the first 15 people. It will award Continuing
Education Units (CEUs). Participants will receive one CEU for each course
that is successfully completed.
The cost for enrolling in the program is $25 per person. The two-hour
classes will run once a week for six consecutive weeks.
The Fayette County Career Center is offering the program in partnership
with Southwest Tennessee Community College and the U.S. Department of
Agriculture/Rural Development. The classes being offered include
E-Commerce for Small Business Owners, Website Development for Small
Businesses, E-Commerce Strategies, Internet Marketing, The Internet and
the Law, and Electronic Payment Systems for E-Commerce-Capstone Course.
E-Commerce is the conducting of business communication and transactions
over networks and through computers. It also includes all inter-company
and intra-company functions such as marketing, finance, manufacturing,
selling, and negotiation that enable commerce and the use of electronic
mail, EDI, file transfer, fax, video conferencing, workflow, or
interaction with a remote computer.
Southwest Tennessee Community College is the fourth largest institute of
higher learning in the state. Southwest is a comprehensive, multicultural,
public, open-access college whose mission is to anticipate and respond to
the educational needs of students, employers, and communities of Shelby
