INSTALLFEST FEBRUARY 1 AT SOUTHWEST WILL OFFER FREE LINUX SOFTWARE AND HELP

Golum, the Group of Linux Users Memphis, will host a Linux Installfest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, February 1. The event will be held in Nabors Auditorium on the Macon Cove Campus of Southwest Tennessee Community College at 5983 Macon Cove.

Anyone interested in taking advantage of this free offer should bring their personal PC (including monitor, mouse and keyboard) to the event and get the software and help (all FREE!) they need to install and configure Linux. Other open-source software available for installation includes Apache (the world's premier web server), MySQL (the SQL database that powers sites such as www.slashdot.org), OpenOffice (the full featured free personal productivity suite), Mozilla (the standard-compliant web browser that forms the basis for Netscape), web scripting languages PHP and Perl, and the Gimp (a powerful image manipulation program in the vein of Adobe Photoshop).

This Linux Installfest is a great way to start if you're interested in learning this robust, scalable, extensible, usable operating system (that Microsoft CEO Steven Ballmer has named his company's "no. 1 threat").

If you have questions, contact Brock Sides, Golum president, at philarete@mindspring.com.
