Danish Students Visit Southwest
Southwest Tennessee Community College is hosting an educational program at
the College from October 3 through 11 for 37 students from Denmark. As
part of their program, the students will be living with local families.
During their stay in Memphis, students will be taking academic seminars
such as English - business writing, speech, computer, and Memphis music
during 10 hours of instruction on weekdays. While in Memphis, as a part of
the program, the students will tour the attractions of the area, such as
Graceland, Sun Studio, Rock and Soul Museum, and the National Civil Rights
Museum.
"They will also get to tour Maersk-Sealand Shipping Lines, a merger of an
American and Danish company, the Port of Memphis and Scan Interiors, which
is a Danish furniture company," said Debbie Hunt, program/host family
coordinator and associate professor at the College. "This is a great
opportunity to share culture and insights as the world is continually
shrinking and becoming more interdependent. Denmark's population is the
same as that of the state of Tennessee."
The students will be visiting with their host families and getting a taste
of life in Memphis for their first few days. On Monday, October 6, they
will begin their touring and educational programs. A detailed itinerary of
their touring and educational programs is attached.
