SOUTHWEST HOSTS LADY SALUQIS CLASSIC

The Southwest women’s basketball team, winners of three of its last four
games, will host the Lady Saluqis Classic on Monday and Tuesday,
December 27-28 at the Verties Sails Gymnasium. In addition to Southwest,
other participating schools in the Classic are Dyersburg State Community
College, Mineral Area College, and Wayne County Community College.
The Lady Saluqis will play Wayne County on Monday at 6 p.m. after
Dyersburg State and Mineral Area play at 3 p.m. On Tuesday, Dyersburg
State will play Wayne County at 4 p.m., followed by Southwest and
Mineral Area at 6 p.m.
The Lady Saluqis bring an 8-5 record into the Classic and are coming off
conference wins over Cleveland State and Hiwassee. Dyersburg State, like
Southwest a member of the Tennessee Junior and Community College
Athletic Association, comes into the Classic with a 2-8 record, while
Mineral Area is 6-4 and Wayne County is 2-5.
On the season, Southwest is led in scoring and rebounding by sophomore
forward Ashley Mason, who is averaging 16.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per
game. Three other Lady Saluqis also carry double figure scoring averages
– freshman guard/forward Kenya Moore (11.6), sophomore guard Lakeisha
Jackson (10.2), and freshman forward Imesia Jackson (10.2). Jackson is
coming off her two best games of the season against Cleveland State and
Hiwassee. In those games, Jackson averaged 25 points and 14 rebounds per
contest.
