LADY SALUQIS SIGN WITH FOUR-YEAR COLLEGES
Four members of the Southwest 2004 Region VII runner-up women’s basketball
team have signed to continue their education and basketball careers at
four-year colleges, according to Lady Saluqis’ head coach Andrea Martre.
“We’re losing some very talented players,” said Martre. “They’ll be missed
and I wish them the best as they continue their basketball careers at the
next level.”
Julia Cole, who was All-TJCCAA and All-West Division as a sophomore, has
signed with Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama. Cole, a product of
Fairley High School, was one of the top rebounders in the entire
conference, averaging 9.1 per contest. She also carried a scoring average
of 6.9 points per game, and was third on the team with 32 steals.
Latoyia Hill, a native of Macon, Georgia, has signed with Tennessee State
University in Nashville. Hill was also named to the All-TJCCAA and
All-West Division teams in 2004. She led the Lady Saluqis in scoring at
13.4 points per game and was the second leading rebounder with a 7.3
average.
Tiffany Webb, from Kirby High School, has signed with LeMoyne-Owen College
in Memphis. Webb was named to the All-West Division team as a sophomore
and was the Lady Saluqis’ third leading scorer at 10.2 points per game.
She also led the team in field goal percentage at 55 percent.
Jacki Jackson, who came to Southwest from Horn Lake (MS) High School, will
play at Tougaloo (MS) College. Jackson averaged 5.4 points and 4.0
rebounds as a sophomore for the Lady Saluqis.
