SOUTHWEST WOMEN WIN, MEN LOSE TO ALUMNI IN EXHIBITION GAMES

The Southwest basketball teams opened the 2004-2005 season on Friday
night at the Verties Sails Gymnasium against the Saluqis alumni. The
Lady Saluqis defeated the alumni team by a score of 79-64, while the
Saluqi men lost 107-101.
In the womens game, Lakeisha Jackson scored 14 points and Kenya Moore
added 13 points to lead the Lady Saluqis scorers. All fourteen players
on the roster played at least ten minutes and eleven players scored in
the game. Other top performers for the Southwest women were Alexis
Jackson (10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 blocked shots), Ashley Mason (8
points, 9 rebounds), Imesia Jackson (8 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocked
shots), and Porshia Willis (8 points, 4 assists). The top scorer for the
Lady Saluqi alumni was Myquita Mackey, who led all scorers with 19
points.
The Saluqi men were led by Chris Prince, who led all scorers with 21
points and also led the team with 11 rebounds. Other players in double
figures were Anthony Pigram (20 points, 6 three-point field goals),
Wallace Cochran (16 points, 8 rebounds), and Dee Burchett (13 points, 7
rebounds). Leading scorers for the Saluqi alumni were Lorico Duncan (21
points), Mario Cain (17 points), Kenneth Bohanna (16 points), Antwon
Bess (15 points), and Marlon Walls (13 points).
The Saluqis and Lady Saluqis open the 2004-2005 regular season on
Monday, November 1 against Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale,
Mississippi. Play by play for both Coahoma games can be heard locally on
WUMR FM 91.7.
The first home games for Southwest will be on Saturday, November 6 at
the Verties Sails Gymnasium when the Lady Saluqis will host Carl Albert
State College at 5 p.m., followed by the mens game against Kennedy-King
College at 7:30 p.m.
