“Taking Early Steps to College” Walk-A-Thon sponsored by Southwest

Southwest will sponsor The MAPS (Making Advanced Plans for Success) Walk –A-Thon to bring awareness and promote early college planning and preparation among Memphis City Schools (MCS) students. The Walk-A-Thon will take place at East High School Track (3206 Poplar Avenue) on Saturday, October 30. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m.

The theme for the Walk-A-Thon is “Taking Early Steps to College.” The MAPS community walk-a-thon will allow you, students, parents, and individuals in the community and corporate arena to walk a mile in support of MCS students who are now taking early steps toward their college education. The Memphis Consortium, a coalition of local colleges and universities, will be on hand to distribute literature educating students and parents about the college admissions process, admissions requirements, and financial aid. Join us in this community effort. Walk a mile in support of MCS students and let’s encourage students to take early steps to prepare academically and financially to enter into and succeed in college!

The MAPS project is designed to expand Memphis City Schools’ plan to institutionalize early college planning. Seventh through twelfth grade students at 14 Memphis City Schools benefit from services including mentors, tutors, campus tours, and summer enrichment camps.
