SOUTHWEST BASEBALL TEAM WINS ONE OF THREE AGAINST VOL STATE

The Southwest baseball team won one of three games over the weekend in a
conference series against Volunteer State at Gagliano Field. After
splitting a doubleheader on Saturday by identical scores of 4-1, the
Saluqis lost a single game on Sunday 8-6.
In Saturday’s opening game win, sophomore lefthander Shane Jackson
improved his record to 6-2 on the season. Jackson allowed six hits,
walked none and struck out four in a complete seven inning game. The
Saluqis got on the scoreboard in the first inning when Chris Rogers and
Jeremy Finney were both hit by pitches and scored (Rogers on a wild
pitch and Finney on a ground ball out by Brendan Murphy.) Southwest
added single runs in the second inning when Collins Coltharp singled and
later scored on a wild pitch and in the fourth when Matt Akin led off
with a triple and also scored on a wild pitch.
The Saluqis next game will be on Tuesday, April 5 against the Lambuth
University junior varsity in a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Gagliano Field.
This weekend, Southwest travels to Morristown, Tennessee for a
three-game conference series against Walters State. Game times are a 2
p.m. single game on Friday, April 8 followed by a noon doubleheader on
Saturday, April 9.
