LADY SALUQIS SOFTBALL TEAM LOSES TO JACKSON STATE AND COLUMBIA STATE
The Southwest softball was swept by Columbia State on Sunday afternoon
in a doubleheader at the Appling Complex, losing 8-0 and 7-1. Last
Friday, the Lady Saluqis lost to Jackson State by scores of 8-5 and 8-7.
Southwest’s record currently stands at 14-24 on the season.
Against Jackson State, several Lady Saluqis had outstanding days at the
plate. Sophomore shortstop Chrissy Odom went 4 for 4 in the first game,
while Christi Morrison had five hits on the afternoon. Also with
multiple hits in the doubleheader was Ginny Galloway (3 hits), Heather
Bryant (2 hits, double, 2 RBI in game two), and Jennifer Davenport (2
hits). Game two starter Katie Cerrito pitched well despite the loss,
scattering seven hits and allowing only one earned run in a complete
seven inning game.
The Lady Saluqis will be on the road for the next two weeks, beginning
with a TJCCAA doubleheader at Dyersburg State on Tuesday, April 12.
Southwest will also play at road game against non-conference opponent
Coahoma on Thursday, April 14.
