Written by Keith Gentry
The Southwest softball team split a doubleheader with Northwest
Mississippi last Thursday at the Appling Complex, losing the first game
10-2 and winning the second 3-1.
In the Lady Saluqis win, sophomore lefthander Katie Cerrito pitched her
best game of the season, allowing six hits and striking out five in a
complete seven inning game. With two outs in the second inning, Ginny
Galloway drove in Christi Morrison to tie the game at 1-1 then Cerrito
singled in Heather Bryant with the go-ahead run. Galloway was also the
Lady Saluqis top hitter in the game with two base hits. Southwest added
a single run in the fifth when Crystal Smith walked to lead off the
inning and later scored on a single by Chrissy Odom. Smith also made the
defensive play of the day with a sliding catch in right field in the top
of the sixth.
Southwest plays its next five opponents at the Appling Complex,
beginning today, Monday, April 4 with a 3 p.m. doubleheader against
LeMoyne-Owen. The Lady Saluqis also play on Tuesday, April 5 (vs.
