SOUTHWEST SOFTBALL TEAM SPLITS WITH WILLIAMS BAPTIST TO OPEN SEASON

The Southwest softball team opened the 2005 season on Thursday, February
17, splitting a doubleheader with Williams Baptist College at the
Appling Complex. The Lady Saluqis lost the first game 8-2, then came
back to win the second game 4-2.
Top hitters on the day for Southwest were sophomore third baseman
Heather Bryant (Brighton High School), who had a single and two doubles,
sophomore catcher Tiffany Bright (Bartlett High School), who drove in
two runs and had three hits, and freshman first baseman Jennifer
Davenport (Houston High School), who had three hits as well.
Freshman pitcher Erica Brich (Collierville High School), picked up the
win in game two, allowing six hits and only one earned run while
striking out seven batters in a complete seven inning game. Brich also
reached base four times in the doubleheader, collecting two hits and two
walks.
The Lady Saluqis next game is scheduled for Wednesday, February 23
against Mississippi Delta Community College at the Appling Complex. The
doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. On Thursday, February 24, Southwest
travels to Paragould, Arkansas to take on Crowleys Ridge College in a 2
p.m. twin-bill.
