SOUTHWEST BASEBALL TEAM SWEEPS COAHOMA IN HOME OPENER

The Southwest baseball team improved to 3-2 on the season with a
doubleheader sweep of Coahoma Community College on Saturday afternoon at
Tony Gagliano Memorial Field. The Saluqis defeated Coahoma by scores of
15-2 and 10-0.
In the first game, pitcher Shane Jackson picked up his second victory of
the season, allowing four hits and striking out four in five innings.
Top hitters for the Saluqis were Jeremy Finney (4 for 4), Wes Melton (3
for 4, 2 RBI), and Chris Rogers (double, triple, 4 RBI). In game two,
Darren Wills and Jake Turner combined for a five inning no-hitter.
Willis was the winning pitcher, going four innings and striking out
three. Finney was also the top hitter in this game with two hits.
The Saluqis return to action on Tuesday, February 15 on the road in a 1
p.m. doubleheader against Northeast Mississippi Community College in
Booneville, Mississippi. Southwest travels to Dyersburg, Tennessee this
weekend to open conference play in a three game series against Dyersburg
State Community College. A single game will be played at 1 p.m. on
Friday, February 18, followed by a noon doubleheader on Saturday,
February 19.
The Saluqis return home on Monday, February 21, when Southwest takes on
Williams Baptist College in a 2 p.m. twin-bill at Tony Gagliano Memorial
Field.
