SOUTHWEST CELEBRATES THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF RICHARD WRIGHT’S
BLACK BOY
This year marks the 60th anniversary of the publication of Richard
Wright’s autobiographical novel Black Boy. The Department of Fine
Arts, Languages and Literature at Southwest Tennessee Community College
invites everyone to come out and commemorate this important work
Wednesday, March 16 for the lecture Richard Wright’s Memphis Blues.
The program, featuring Southwest faculty member and Richard Wright
scholar Dr. Yvonne Robinson-Jones, will use the context of the blues
idiom to frame the significance of the Memphis experience in shaping
Wright’s artistic consciousness and identity as a writer.
The program will run from 6 – 7 p.m. in the Parrish Library, Rooms 100
and 101 on Southwest’s Union Avenue Campus. A reception will follow.
