SOUTHWEST WOMEN LOSE TO #13 WALTERS STATE IN REGION SEMIS
The season came to an end for the Southwest women's basketball team as
they were defeated 63-48 by 13th-ranked Walters State on Saturday
afternoon in the Region VII Tournament semifinals in Harriman,
Tennessee. Trailing by only six at halftime (29-26), the Lady Saluqis
were outscored 40-19 in the second half by Walters State.
Southwest, the regular season TJCCAA Western Division champions, turned
in a fine defensive effort, limiting Walters State to only 33 percent
shooting (including 29 percent in the second half.) However, the Lady
Saluqis committed 32 turnovers in the game compared to 21 for Walters
State and were out rebounded 44-39. Freshman Kenya Moore led Southwest
in scoring with nine points as Southwest placed no one in double
figures. Moore also led the team with 10 rebounds.
The Lady Saluqis won their quarterfinal game on Thursday against
Cleveland State by a score of 95-84. The Southwest women were led in
scoring by Lakeisha Jackson with 23 points and Ashley Mason with 22
points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Lady Saluqis ended the season with an 18-9 overall record.
