SOUTHWEST BASEBALL PLAYERS HONORED BY TJCCAA

Four Southwest baseball players have been honored by Tennessee Junior
and Community College Athletic Association as members of the
all-conference team. The players received their awards last Saturday at
the Region VII Tournament in Columbia, Tennessee.
Three players were named to the All-TJCCAA second team – outfielders
Brit Vincent and Chris Rogers, and pitcher Shane Jackson. Vincent, a
native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, led the team with a .391 batting
average, 207 at-bats, 81 hits, and 116 total bases, and was second on
the team with 18 doubles and 45 runs batted in. Rogers, a product of
Bolton High School, was the team’s third leading hitter with a .384
average and was also among team leaders with 63 hits, 16 doubles, and 32
RBI. Jackson, another Bolton High graduate, led the Saluqis’ pitching
staff with eight wins, a 3.84 ERA, 14 games started and 60 strikeouts.
In addition, he set a new Southwest record with 96 innings pitched.
Named to the third team as a designated hitter was sophomore Brendan
Murphy, who prepped at Grace Academy in Chattanooga. Murphy batted.372
this spring with 68 hits, 16 doubles, six home runs, 51 RBI, 112 total
bases, and led the conference with five triples.
Also receiving votes for the all-conference team was freshman third
baseman Clay Wright, who batted .386 and led the team with 21 doubles,
seven home runs, a .450 on-base average and a .676 slugging average.
