SOUTHWEST SOFTBALL TEAM OPENS FALL SEASON

The Southwest softball teams 2006 Fall Season gets underway this
weekend as the Lady Saluqis travel to Carterville, Illinois to compete
in the Icebreaker Classic.
Southwest will play the host team, John A. Logan College, at 2 p.m. on
Friday, September 1 followed by a 4 p.m. match-up with Shawnee Community
College. On Saturday, September 2, the Lady Saluqis will play John A.
Logan at noon and Rend Lake Community College at 2 p.m.
Returning players from the 2005-2006 team are catcher Anna Carter,
infielders Jessica Hefflinger and Lindsey McGoff, and outfielders Caryn
Hubbard and Carrie Byram. Newcomers to the Lady Saluqis program include
pitcher Staci Craig (Brighton High School), first baseman Amanda Harlow
(Marion, AR), infielder-catcher Alyse Brewer (Florence, AL), and
outfielder Brooke Hively (Adamsville, TN).
Southwest will play 20-25 games during the fall season, including
tournaments hosted by Northeast Mississippi Community College, Dyersburg
State Community College, and the University of Tennessee-Martin. In
addition, Southwest will play East Mississippi Community College on
September 7 and also host the Third Annual Lady Saluqis Play-Day on
October 6-7 at the Buckhead Creek Recreation Complex.
