SOUTHWEST MEN DEFEAT CHATTANOOGA AND MOTLOW

The Southwest mens basketball team defeated Chattanooga State and
Motlow State at the Verties Sails Gymnasium over the weekend to improve
its record to 14-3 overall and 11-2 in the Tennessee Junior and
Community College Athletic Association.
In the Saluqis 97-82 win over Chattanooga State on Friday night, Lester
Hudson and Moraye Ivy combined for 47 points to lead Southwest. Hudson
also led the team in rebounding with 14, while Ivy grabbed nine boards.
The Saluqis, down 36-35 at halftime, outscored Chattanooga State 62-46
in the second period. The Southwest defensive effort was outstanding,
forcing 33 turnovers to go along with 18 steals.
On Saturday afternoon, four Saluqis scored in double figures as
Southwest defeated Motlow State 91-60. Greg Grimes scored 17 points and
Darius Simmons added a season-high 15 points to lead four Southwest
players in double figures. The Saluqis defense was again exceptional,
forcing 29 turnovers and limiting Motlow State to only 32 percent
shooting.
The Saluqis return to the court on Saturday, January 21 when Southwest
travels to Jackson, Tennessee to take on Jackson State Community
College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. Play-by-play for the game will
be broadcast locally on WUMR 91.7 FM.
