Release written by Keith Gentry
The Southwest mens basketball season came to an end Thursday afternoon
with an 82-72 loss to the College of Southern Idaho in second round
action at the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. The
Saluqis finished the season with an outstanding 23-8 overall record.
All-conference guard Lester Hudson closed out his career with a
game-high 25 points while Anthony Pigram added 17 in his last game as a
Saluqi. Other top scorers were Donald Boone with nine points and Anthony
Barbee with eight.
Southwest led by as many as 11 in the first half and trailed by a single
point (34-33) at intermission but were outscored by Southern Idaho 49-38
in the second half. Although the two teams were even in both rebounds
(47) and turnovers (22) in the final stats, the Saluqis shot only 38.2
percent from the field (including 25.8 three-pointers) and 46.2 percent
from the free throw line in one of their coldest shooting games of the
season.
