SOUTHWEST BASEBALL TEAM TAKES 2 OF 3 FROM JACKSON STATE

The Saluqis baseball team improved to 15-8 on the season as they won
two of three games from Jackson State in Jackson, Tennessee over the
weekend. After losing the opener on Friday 5-3, Southwest rebounded to
win the next two games by scores of 11-6 and 9-6.
Sophomore catcher Elvis Sosa was one of the hitting stars for the three
game series as he had 11 hits in 13 at-bats. Included in his 11 hits
were 4 doubles, a home run and 7 runs batted in. Freshman first
baseman/outfielder Corey Rudolph also had a nice weekend as he was 4 for
9 with 3 home runs and 6 RBI.
Other top individual performers were sophomore outfielder Brent Moss (6
for 11 with a double, home run, and 5 RBI) and freshman catcher Josh
Maurizi (4 for 9, double, home run, 3 RBI).
On the mound, Ivan Nails improved his record to 3-1 as he went 6-2/3
innings in game two of the series. Darren Wills, Chris Crenshaw, and
Jeffrey Matlock combined to win game three. Wills tossed the first five
innings to pick up the victory. Crenshaw was solid in his three inning
relief stint with Matlock working the ninth inning.
Southwest will travel to Harrisburg, Illinois on Wednesday, March 15 for
a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Southeastern Illinois College. The Saluqis
will return home to Gagliano Field on Friday and Saturday, March 17-18
as they host conference foe Roane State.
