SOUTHWEST BASEBALL TEAM LOSES TWICE IN NOSTALGIA MAN CLASSIC
Release written by Keith Gentry
The Southwest baseball team was defeated twice over the weekend in the
fourth annual Nostalgia Man Classic at AutoZone Park. On Saturday, the
Saluqis were defeated 1-0 by Rhodes College then lost 2-0 on Sunday to
Christian Brothers University.
After losing a one-run decision on Saturday, Southwest found itself in
another pitcher’s duel on Sunday against CBU. Going into the seventh
inning the score was tied at 0-0. With two outs, CBU scored two runs in
the top of the inning to take a 2-0 lead then held the Saluqis scoreless
in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
The entire Saluqis’ pitching staff did an outstanding job in both games.
In Sunday’s game, freshman starter Jeremy Stephenson allowed two hits
and struck out three batters in three innings. Sophomore Zac LaBarreare
pitched a scoreless fourth, getting out of a jam after CBU loaded the
bases on a hit batter, an error and a bunt single. Other pitchers for
Southwest against CBU were freshman Billy Ray Todd, sophomore Adam
Hampton, and freshman Colby Fitzpatrick. Sophomore first baseman Corey
Rudolph and freshman centerfielder Seth Walker had the only hits of the
game the Southwest.
