The Lady Saluqis softball team has signed two student athletes to
national letters of intent to continue their education and softball
careers at Southwest.
Whitney Grimes, a catcher from Jacksonville (AR) High School, batted
.450 in 2006 and led her team to the semifinals of the Arkansas Class
5-A state tournament. In her career, Grimes led Jacksonville High to a
64-17 record and was named to the all-conference team three times. She
played summer travel ball for the Arkansas Devil Dogs and was a
four-time tournament Most Valuable Player last summer. In addition,
Grimes was a pick-up player for the 18 and under National and World
champion Cole Minnows team.
Maegan Wilson, a pitcher from Munford High School, posted a 16-6 record
with a 1.68 earned run average as a junior while leading Munford to
runner-up in District 13AAA and the semifinals of the Region 7AAA
tournament. She struck out 113 batters while walking only 13 in 137-1/3
innings of work and was also one of the team’s top hitters with a .354

all-district team for the past three seasons, the all-district
tournament team twice, and was a finalist for both the Millington Star
and Covington Leader Pitcher of the Year awards in 2006. She has played
summer ball for the South Tipton Storm travel team for the past seven
years. Also a member of the Munford bowling team, Wilson has made the
All-Region team four times and was the 2006 Covington Leader Female
Bowler of the Year.
