Danish Students Visit Southwest

The International Education Department at Southwest Tennessee Community College will be hosting 22 international exchange students from Svenborg, Denmark from October 3-10. International Studies at Southwest is established to promote global experiences through various programs for students, faculty, and staff at the college. The students attend Svenborg Business College and are looking forward to coming to Memphis in order to experience the educational and cultural diversity of our great city.

The Svenborg students will be placed with several host families in the Memphis community after spending their prior time in the U.S. in hotels in New York and Washington, DC. These families have volunteered their homes, located across the city. Several activities have been planned for the students, such as visiting Graceland, the Civil Rights Museum, Sun Studio, as well as attending a Memphis Grizzlies game.

In addition, they will be attending classes in sociology, politics, and music, along with a lecture and a dramatic presentation. This student visit is just one of several programs sponsored by the International Education Program at Southwest, and it coincides with the Centennial Celebration of Richard Wright's Life and Works, with Wright's daughter, Julia Wright as keynote speaker, to be held October 6 at 10 a.m. in the Union Theater on the Southwest Union Avenue Campus.

For further information regarding the visit, contact Dr. Yvonne Jones by calling (901) 333-5268 or by e-mail at yjones@sothwest.tn.edu.
