Rucker and Luellen Named All-American By NJCAA

Sophomores Candace Rucker and Starkitsha Luellen, leaders of this year’s nationally-ranked Lady Saluqis basketball team, have been named All-Americans by the National Junior College Athletic Association. Rucker was a first team selection while Luellen received honorable mention.

Rucker, a 5’9” guard from Memphis Northside High School, has also earned All-American honors from the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and was voted all-conference by the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association. Rucker led the TJCCAA in scoring (20.0), and steals (3.9), and was also the Lady Saluqis team leader in field goal percentage (.546) and free throw percentage (.686). She recorded eight double-doubles including season highs of 32 points against Georgia Perimeter, 12 rebounds (three times), and 11 steals against Hiwassee. Rucker has signed to play next season at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Luellen, a 6’0” forward from Memphis Melrose High School, was selected the TJCCAA Western Division and Co-Conference Player of the Year in a vote by the coaches. Luellen averaged 13.7 points per game and led the conference with a 12.3 rebounding average. She recorded 13 double-doubles this season and had season highs of 24 points and 20 rebounds against Columbia State.
