For Immediate Release Southwest softball pitcher Staci Craig has been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic All-American Team. She was one of only six student-athletes from colleges in the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association (TJCCAA) named to this year’s Academic All-American Team. In addition, Craig’s 3.87 cumulative grade point average earned her Distinguished Academic All-American recognition. NJCAA Academic All-Americans must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.60 or better on a 4.0 scale for 45 semester hours. Distinguished Academic All-Americans must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.80 or better. Craig, a native of Burlison, Tennessee and graduate of Brighton High School, is the fifth Lady Saluqi to be selected NJCAA Academic All-American and the third to merit Distinguished All-American. She is also a two-time recipient of the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association’s Academic Achievement Award and earned the highest grade point average of any Southwest student-athlete in each of the past two years. Craig has been accepted into the University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s Dental Hygiene Program. In her two-year career at Southwest, Craig set Lady Saluqis’ pitching records with 25 wins, 304 strikeouts, and a 2.38 earned run average. As a sophomore, she set single season records with 15 wins, 185 strikeouts, and a 1.98 earned run average and finished fourth in voting for TJCCAA Pitcher of the Year. Her freshman year, Craig was named to the TJCCAA’s All-Western Division team after leading the team with 10 pitching victories, a 2.92 earned run average, and 119 strikeouts. |
