Greg Brownderville, winner of the Porter Prize for poetry, will conduct a public reading and performance of his work on November 20, at the Southwest Tennessee Community College Macon Cove Campus library, beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the library auditorium. The workshop will be held in the library conference room from 1:45 to 3:45 p.m. Both are free and open to the public.
Brownderville's work reflects his participation in the musical and storytelling traditions of the Delta, where he grew up, as well as his abiding interest in comparative literature and mythology. His book, Deep Down in the Delta (2005), features his poetry along with a selection of the folktales he gathered in his home region.
Brownderville has also performed in blues bands as a singer and French harp player from Arkansas to Carolina. His work also has been published in The Oxford American, The Eclectic Muse, and Edge City Review.
To register for the workshop, call Thad Cockrill at (901) 333-4604. To submit your work for review, send up to three poems, unsigned, as e-mail attachments, to email@example.com. (Include your name in the body of your e-mail.) You may also drop off your poems at the Whitehead Building room 23, at the Macon Cove Campus, 5983 Macon Cove, Memphis, TN 38134.
