American Cancer Society
Application packets are mailed directly to students upon request. Students' applications must be received no later than TBA.

The American Cancer Society's Mid-South Division is awarding college scholarships to young cancer survivors pursuing an undergraduate degree from an accredited university, community college or vocational/technical school.

Coca-Cola Two-Year Colleges Scholarship Program

Each year since 2000, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has awarded 400 scholarships to students attending two-year degree granting institutions. This is a wonderful opportunity for students who have at least a 2.5 grade point average and who are actively engaged in community service, (demonstrated either through service to your institution (i.e. student government, mentoring or in the greater community).

Community Foundation of Greater Memphis
Scholarship Funds
The Community Foundation of Greater Memphis administers ten scholarship funds for which individuals may apply. The 2007 Scholarship Funds information booklet includes general information, descriptions of each fund, including qualifications. The booklet is available in pdf and Word formats. General Motors Automotive Service Educational Scholarship Program 2005

The General Motors Automotive Service Educational Scholarship Program provides scholarship support to outstanding Hispanic Students pursuing post-secondary technical-training in automotive service. A limited number of scholarship of up to $2,500 are available to students that have applied for and been accepted into the GM Automotive Service Educational Program (GM ASEP/BSEP) at an eligible institution. John F. Smith, Jr. (JFS) Scholarship Award

The JFS Scholarship program was established to support continuing automotive education for Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) students in an approved postsecondary or related program at a college or university.

Each school year, AYES students that meet all AYES program requirements will be eligible to apply for a two-year scholarship in the amount of $5,000. Each school year, one new JFS Scholarship will be awarded per participating AYES OEM partner.

Bluff City Medical and Pharmaceutical Auxiliary

The Bluff City Medical and Pharmaceutical Auxiliary is a non-profit organization comprised of spouses of local physicians and pharmacists. The goals of the Auxiliary are to provide service, education and charity in the community. Specifically, they include but are not limited to:

  1. helping to educate the public on health
  2. aiding in the relief of health problems in the community
  3. assisting the Bluff City Medical Society
  4. providing financial support to students in medical and allied health related fields

As an applicant applying for financial support, the following criteria should be met:

  1. Reside in the Tri-State Area (TN, MS, ARK).
  2. Proof of enrollment in an Allied Health Program for at least 2 quarters or semesters.
    (Current and past semester/quarter tuition receipts and report cards required).
  3. Currently in good academic standing in the program.
  4. Submit a list of needs in order of priority for supplemental financial support.
    Scholarship funds will be issued on the basis of semester need.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Program

Established by Congress in 1986 to foster and encourage excellence in science and mathematics, the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation operates an educational scholarship program designed to provide opportunities for American undergraduate students with excellent academic records and outstanding potential. Goldwater Scholarships support study in the fields of mathematics, engineering and the natural sciences as preparation for careers in these areas.  Awards are made on the basis of merit. Yale College is invited to nominate four Sophomores or Juniors to the national competition.
Each award covers eligible expenses, including tuition, fees, books, and room and board, up to a maximum of $7,500 per year. Goldwater Scholars are eligible for one or two years of support.

Executive Women International Scholarship Program (EWISP)

EWI offers two programs, EWISP and ASIST, to help qualified applicants to achieve their academic goals. Each chapter conducts their EWISP and/or ASIST program and develop their own criteria regarding deadlines, limiting areas, schools, and agencies they partner with. Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, a private, independent foundation, was established in 2000 by the estate of philanthropist and businessman Jack Kent Cooke to help young people of exceptional promise reach their full potential through education. The Foundation will accept nominations for the Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program. Each accredited community college or two-year institution in the US, regardless of the size or number of campuses, may nominate two(2) students or recent graduates for this scholarship.

Memphis Area Teachers' Credit Union Scholarship

Memphis Area Teachers' Credit Union will award six scholarships in the spring of 2005 to high school senior or college freshmen planning to pursue a career in teaching. Recipients will receive up to $2500 per year for up to four years, totaling $10,000 per winner, as long as guidelines continue to be met.

Memphis District Dietetic Association Scholarship (MDDA Scholarship)

The Memphis District Dietetic Association will award scholarships to deserving full time dietetic students enrolled in a dietetic program approved or accredited by the American Dietetic Association Commission on Accreditation/Approval for Dietetic Education. The student must be attending school in Shelby County, TN or the student must be residing in Shelby County, TN. Criteria for the award will be based on two essays:

  1. Second year stud4ent in a Dietetic Technician Program
  2. Junior or senior in a Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD)
  3. Student in a dietetic internship program

Applications must submit the following credentials:

  1. Completed typed application (email bsmith@southwest.tn.edu for the application forms)
  2. Official transcripts mailed from the college or university directly to the Scholarship Chairperson.
  3. Three letters of recommendation from academic advisors, professor, or a Registered Dietitian who has observed scholastic or field work experience.
  4. Two typed 250 word essays answering the questions on the application.

All credentials must be postmarked by TBA to be considered for the 2005-2006 scholarship. The amount of the scholarships has yet to be determined, but it will not be less than $500 per award.

Recipients of the scholarship will be honored at the Memphis District Dietetic Association (MDDA) Fall Breakfast Meeting in TBA.

Tennessee Board of Regents Academic Service Scholarship and the Community College Presidential Scholarship

Tennessee Tech University is pleased to continue to offer Southwest Tennessee Community College students scholarship opportunities for their junior and senior years. To apply for the Tennessee Board of Regents Academic Service Scholarship or the Community College Presidential Scholarship, transfer students will need to complete the Tennessee Tech scholarship application form available online at www.tntech.edu/scholarships. The amount of the scholarship is $3500. Applications may be submitted either online or the application may be printed to complete and mail. After the December 15 deadline, you will be contacted requesting additional information needed for you if you among the potential candidates qualifying as a scholarship recipient. Tennessee Labor-Management Conference Scholarship Program

The Tennessee Labor-Management Conference Scholarship is sponsored by the Tennessee Labor-Management Conference.

Objective
The objective of the scholarship is to increase and retain the number of new professionals entering the labor relations field as a career in order to sustain growth and cooperation in the labor-management industry within the State of Tennessee.

Award
Each year, subject to the availability of funding, the Tennessee Labor-Management Conference Scholarship Fund will award a $1000 scholarship at the Tennessee Labor-Management Winter Conference. The TLMC awards multiple $2,000 scholarships at the Tennessee Labor-Management Summer Conference each August. The monies are designated to help offset expenses toward a student’s field of study and is to be used for tuition or other education needs.

Eligibility
Applicants statewide are eligible for the 2005 Summer Labor-Management Scholarship. Only applicants from West Tennessee are eligible for the 2006 Winter Labor-Management Scholarship.

Eligibility is defined as any college or university student who (1) is a legal resident of the State of Tennessee; (2) has completed the freshman and sophomore years of study in a degree program of a fully accredited two- or four-year public or private institution of higher learning in the State of Tennessee with a grade point average of 2.5 or better (based on a 4.0 system); (3) is actively pursuing a baccalaureate or graduate degree; (4) is not related to an employee, member of the Board of Directors, or member of the Advisory Board of the Tennessee Labor-Management Conference; and (5) plans to pursue a career in a labor relations-related field is eligible to apply. The student’s current field of study is not an eligibility criterion.

The Foundation of the National Student Nurses’ Association, Inc.

The Foundation of the National Student Nurses Association (FNSNA) was created in 1969 to honor Frances Tompkins, the Association's first Executive Director. Organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, the Foundation awards scholarships to qualified nursing students. Contributions to the FNSNA are tax-deductible. Since 1974, the FNSNA has awarded over $2 million dollars in scholarships to undergraduate nursing students. The Foundation is organized as a 501 (C) (3) charitable foundation.

The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee

The community Foundation of Middle Tennessee Scholarship Program is made up of 38 different scholarship funds established by individuals, firms, or organizations to assist individuals pursuing a college education. Scholarship Funds have been set up to benefit students from a particular geographic area or school, attending certain post-secondary institutions, or entering certain fields of study. Students apply to the program and, if eligible, can be awarded grants from one or more of these funds.

William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship for Minority Students

The Nonprofit Sector Research Fund (http://nonprofitresearch.org/ ), a grant making program of the Aspen Institute in Washington, D.C., annually offers the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Scholarship. The scholarship, which is based on academic excellence and need, is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who are members of minority groups. The Hearst Scholar serves as a summer intern with the fund. Through the program, the fund seeks to introduce a diverse group of students to issues relating to philanthropy, voluntarism, and nonprofit organizations.

The ideal candidate for the scholarship is a highly motivated continuing graduate or undergraduate student from an underrepresented community. The student must be able to intern for ten (10) to twelve (12) weeks full-time during the summer at the Washington, D.C., office of the Aspen Institute. All travel and housing costs must be covered by the student.
