How to Become a Student

__ 1. Fill out the Application for admission to Southwest. (Download a printable version of the Admissions Application packet. The printable application requires Adobe Reader.)
__ 2. Fill out the Southwest's International Student Application Form (I-20)
__ 3. Fill out the Affidavit of Support Form (I-134) (if you have a sponsor)
__ 4. The Financial statement
  • Personal or family sponsored: Bank letter certification of wages or similar statement of financial resources
  • Government or company scholarship: Official sponsorship letter
__ 5. $30 application fee
  • Please send check or money order - do not send cash.
__ 6. Mail application, affidavit, financial statement, and $30 application fee to:

Fall Semester ................ August 1
Spring Semester............. December 1
Summer Semester.......... May 1

What happens after you send your application to us?

  1. Once the International Student Affair Office receives your documents, fees, and application, we will review and assess your information.
  2. If you meet all college requirements for enrollment, we will send you an acceptance letter and the U.S. Immigration I-20 form to get a visa.
  3. In order to get a student visa, take your papers to the American Consulate or Embassy.
  4. After you arrive to Memphis, come to our office at 5983 Macon Cove or 737 Union Avenue for advisement.
  5. You will attend orientation, take placement tests, pick up class schedules, pay tuition and fees, and start classes.
