Internet Use Policy
Southwest offers access to electronic resources, including those on the Internet. The internet offers unlimited access to information that is personally, professionally, and culturally enriching to individuals of all ages. Not all sources are accurate, complete, current, legal or philosophically acceptable. It is the responsibility of the user to select or reject online information based on good judgment and discretion. Access is also compatible with the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights, and the Freedom to Read and Freedom to View Statements.
Acceptable Use
Users of the Internet are expected to use these resources in a responsible manner, consistent with the educational and informational purposes for which they are provided.
Users are advised to:
- Respect the privacy of others.
- Comply with copyright law and licensing for individual data and programs
- Show consideration for the security and functioning of computers, computer networks and systems.
Unacceptable Use
Access to the computer is a privilege, not a right. Abuse or misuse of equipment, or software, or violation of the Southwest policies may result in suspension or loss of computer privileges in the Library.
Users are advised not to:
- Violate federal, state or local laws including copyright laws.
- Interfere with or disrupting other computer users, services, or equipment
- Attempt to gain unauthorized entry to other computing information, or communication sources or devices (hacking).
- Threaten, harass, or display obscene behavior or language
- Exhibit obscene behavior including public display of obscene materials on computer screens or in hard copy.
- Cause congestion and disruption of networks and systems.
- Conduct unsolicited advertising
- Upload, download, transmit or distribute pornographic, obscene, or sexually explicit language or material
Cautions
Maximum usage time allowed is two hours. A warning message appears at 3 minutes remaining.
- Users are cautioned to safeguard the security of personal information, credit cards, computer accounts, password and other types of authorizations.
- Southwest is not responsible for any direct or indirect damages (including lost data or information with the use of the system)
- The Libraries will adhere to the provisions of the United States Copyright Act Title 17 of the United States Code.
- Users are advised to report problems to the library staff immediately.
