Student Services Online

The Division of Student Affairs has taken intentional steps to ensure that you continue to receive the critical support services to help you be academically successful, as the College responds to the COVID-19 crisis by moving to an online learning platform. As a result, the college has moved its classes and campus operations to a complete online environment. This does NOT mean that the College is not operating. It means that the College has strategically moved our important supports online to minimize the spread of infectious disease, while maintaining an acceptable level of service to the academic community. Student Affairs has prescribed the ways that you can continue to receive important information, support, and services below:

During this time, the Office of Advising has transitioned services online. Yes, you can STILL be advised. Check your Southwest email because your Professional Academic Advisor will send your recommended classes for Fall 2020.

For Advising, there are a few different options available:

  • TEAMS, ZOOM (30 minute free version), and Skype.
  • Phone
  • Email - Students can email or text their Professional Academic Advisor; Contact information is located on their dashboard.

NOTE: All of these options require time for advisors to respond and may cause a delay in response. Please plan ahead and check out the advising options available. Finally, if there are any questions, please email advising@southwest.tn.edu or call 901-333-4594.

2 Way Texting with your Professional Academic Advisor

Your Professional Academic Advisor, is just a text away. Make sure your cell# is current and up-to-date in the Portal so that your advisor can text you. You will receive a timely reply.

  • Students may email ASC@southwest.tn.edu and WritingTutor@southwest.tn.edu to receive online tutoring via email.
  • Students may log into PAWS and select “self-register” under “Self-Registration Courses” on the right side of the main page to enroll in the ASC’s two PAWS sites: “ASC Math Workshop” and “ASC Writing, Literature, Reading, or Spanish Online Tutoring.” Students can upload assignments to receive feedback.
  • Students may also use Smarthinking which is accessible in every PAWS site. Links to Smarthinking are on the main page of each course page. By signing into PAWS and selecting your course, students can access up to 24/7 tutoring.

Be aware that all of these options require time for tutors to respond. Please plan ahead and check out the tutoring options available. Finally, if there are any questions, please email ASC@southwest.tn.edu or call 901-333-4440.
