Study Abroad Application Information
Application Submission
The student must apply to the Southwest International Studies office.
Academic Requirements
- A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0
- Student must be currently enrolled at Southwest full-time or part-time
- Students must have completed 12 institutional and undergraduate hours at the time of application
- Student must have successfully completed the following courses at the time of application, if applicable to the following courses:
- ENGL 0810 - English Support and ENGL 0820 - Learning Support Writing II
- MATH 0810 - Math Learning Support
- READ 0810 - Reading Support for ACAD 1100 [ACAD 1100 - Academic Success Seminar] and READ 0820 - Reading Learning Support 2
Required Documentation
To obtain the required document contact the International Studies office. All items listed below must be submitted to the International Studies office.
- Two letters of recommendation from a Southwest faculty member
- A brief essay, 500 words minimum, on the student's intent and purpose of participation in the selected study abroad program
- A current transcript, Transcript Requests
- An academic progress report, if requested
- A non-refundable program fee
- Fee for first-time study abroad students is $450.00

Mandatory Participation
- An interview with an International Studies Committee Representative at Southwest
- Tennessee Consortium for International Studies (TnCIS) orientation
- Southwest Study Abroad orientation
- Complete 20-hours of community or volunteer service
