Complying with Limited English Proficiency guidelines The Office of Equity and Compliance would like to remind Southwest Tennessee Community College employees of their obligations under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which requires them to take reasonable steps to provide meaningful access to services to individuals with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).

To ensure compliance with the requirements of Title VI, the College follows the procedures established in the TBR Guideline G-130. This guideline details the process faculty and staff must follow to promptly identify the language and communication needs of LEP individuals who make themselves known to the College.

The College may use bilingual employees or Linguistica for interpreter services. For your convenience, here are clickable links to instructions for reaching Linguistica, using the Linguistica International language identification card, and the TBR Guideline G-130. 

The College must keep detailed records of interpretation services and report them to TBR. Please email Equity and Compliance at equityandcompliance@southwest.tn.edu each time an interpretation service is provided to LEP individuals. Be sure to include:

  1. the date of service;
  2. the language spoken; 
  3. whether the interpretation was provided by a bilingual employee or Linguistica; and
  4. the interpreter’s name.
