Levels of Training
This career requires you to think critically and take charge in unpredictable and sometimes chaotic situations. This career is physically demanding and requires specific technical standards. EMS training has three progressive levels of training and licensure:
- Initial training program: Emergency Medical Technician: Basic
- Second training program: Emergency Medical Technician: Advanced
- Final training program: Paramedic

Currently licensed and certified paramedics also can earn an associate degree in nursing while transitioning to a new career as a registered nurse (RN) through our Paramedic to RN Mobility Track Program.
Career Opportunities
Employment of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics is projected to grow 7 percent from 2018 to 2028, faster than the average for all occupations. (US Department of Labor)

Paramedic Program Outcomes
CAAHEP Accredited Paramedic Programs track and report outcome measures annually to the Committee on Accreditation for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP).
2020 Outcomes
The most current CoAEMSP Annual Report was for the calendar year 2020.
The 2020 success rate for the National Registry of EMT Paramedic/State Cognitive exam was 100 %.
The 2020 positive placement rate for graduates was 100%. Positive placement is defined by the CoAEMSP as ‘Employed full or part-time in a related field and/or continuing his/her education and/or serving in the military’. Positive placement is measured at completion of the program.
The 2020 retention rate was 90%.
2021 Outcomes
The 2021 success rate for the National Registry of EMT Paramedic/State Cognitive exam was 100 %.
The 2021 positive placement rate for graduates was 100%. Positive placement is defined by the CoAEMSP as ‘Employed full or part-time in a related field and/or continuing his/her education and/or serving in the military’. Positive placement is measured at completion of the program.
