Supplemental Instruction
Supplemental Instruction provides small group tutoring assistance for help in some of Southwest’s most difficult courses.
There is also an opportunity to become a Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader for
a class that you really enjoyed taking in a previous semester.
To qualify to be an SI Leader, you must maintain a minimum of 3.25 GPA, have previously
earned an “A” in the course of instruction, and have already earned a total of 15
or more credit hours.
Ready to reach your goals? Student success workshops give you an extra boost to help
you with your academic success. We have a variety of workshops available to students
such as the Communication at Southwest workshop
, The L.I.T. Session study skills workshop
, and the Discovering My Learning Style workshop
. If you are interested in any of our workshops, please complete a Workshop Appointment Application. Once you fill out your application, one of our program specialists will contact
you to set up an appointment.
Communication at Southwest:
This workshop shows students the proper way to communicate in a business-professional
environment.
Discovering My Learning Style:
This workshop helps students to identify their individual learning style and gives
them tips on how to incorporate it successfully into any class or assignment. This
workshop can be done in person or online.
The L.I.T. Session: Transforming Learning into Thinking:
This is a study skills workshop that allows students to practice study skills techniques.
If you would like to complete this workshop online, please select the “Maximize Your
Learning (online)” option.
Putting My Best Pen Forward:
This workshop gives writing tips for math (including math for elementary school teachers),
history, language or science classes.
Time Management:
In this workshop, we discuss priorities as they relate to the student’s life. The
time management exercise encourages them to analyze their goals and compare them to
their current activities.
There will also be a few open sessions for our Google Me workshop (using the Google Chromebook), Enhancing Your Future (Career Transitions) workshop, and the Reality Check Series (personal and professional growth from a modern day perspective). The dates for the open sessions are below.
