The Theatrical Production, "Who Am I?" Comes to Southwest

Southwest will stage the play, Who Am I? For Women Who've Seen the Rough Side of the Mountain, from November 15-18 at its Union Avenue Campus Theatre. The play, created, conceptualized and compiled by Southwest Adjunct Professor of Communications, Graphic and Fine Arts and Co-founder of Blues City Culture Center Deborah Frazier, and directed by Celestine Staples, is based on the writings of homeless women from the Salvation Army's Homeless Shelter.

It first premiered at the Women's Theatre Festival in August 2012, where Frazier also received the coveted Gyneka Award, which honors women in theatre. "Who Am I?" features Southwest students, alumni, and faculty. The play is scheduled for a brief tour throughout Memphis and the Mid-South after the Southwest performances.

The performance dates and times are as follows:

• November 15–8 p.m.
• November 16–12:30 p.m.
• November 17–8 p.m.
• November 18–3 p.m.

Each performance will conclude with a discussion from persons who serve the homeless in general – women and children in particular. Presenters represent the following organizations:

• November 15: Mayor AC Wharton, Salvation Army – Single Women's Lodge and Union Mission – moderator – Alex Embry (Southwest graduate)
• November 16: Rebecca's Rest (West Memphis, AR), Salvation Army – Emergency Family Shelter, Community Alliance for the Homeless – Moderator – Kariem Salaam
• November 17: Light House
• November 18: YWCA, Quiznos, More than a Meal, Memphis Food Bank

The admission is $5 for the public with a portion of the proceeds going to a book scholarship.
