Southwest Baseball Team In Region Play-In Game Against Roane State

The Southwest Tennessee Community College baseball team will travel to Chattanooga, Tennessee, this week for the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament hosted by Chattanooga State Community College.

The seventh-seed Saluqis will play tenth-seed Roane State in a play-in game on April 29 at noon. The winner advances to the eight-team double-elimination tournament which begins on April 30 with the championship game set for May 3. The tournament champion will host the NJCAA East Central District Championship May 14-16 with the winner advancing to the NJCAA National Championship May 23-30 in Grand Junction, Colorado.

The Saluqis' top hitter this season is sophomore Vince Hoyt, a Holly Springs, Mississippi, native who leads the team with a .405 batting average, 17 doubles, 6 home runs, 33 runs scored, 51 runs batted in, 105 total bases and a .625 slugging average. Other top hitters are sophomore third baseman Dylan Moore (Savannah, TN), who is batting .303 with 12 doubles, five home runs and 25 runs batted in; sophomore centerfielder Miguel Egea (Orlando, FL), who is batting .302 with 31 runs scored; and sophomore catcher/outfielder Michael Ince (Briarcrest Christian School), who ranks second on the team with 13 doubles, five home runs and 26 runs batted in.

Matt McKinstry, a sophomore righthander from White Station High School, leads the pitching staff with a 2.82 earned run average, while sophomore lefthander Chad Collins (First Assembly Christian School) is the leader in strikeouts (44) and innings (60-2/3). McKinstry, Collins, Milton Macias (Valencia, Venezuela) and Matt Mills (First Assembly Christian School) all have four pitching wins.
