Southwest Softball Team To Face Dyersburg State in Region Play-In Game

The Southwest Tennessee Community College softball team will travel to Columbia, Tennessee May 8-11 for the TCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament hosted by Columbia State Community College.

The tenth-seed Lady Saluqis will take on seventh-seed Dyersburg State in a play-in game on May 8 at 4 p.m. The winner advances to the eight-team double-elimination tournament which begins on May 9 with the championship game set for May 11. The tournament champion advances to the NJCAA National Tournament May 18-21 in St. George, Utah.

Sophomore first baseman Kayla Bryant leads the team with a .378 batting average, 10 home runs, 47 runs batted in, 104 total bases, a .605 slugging average and .455 on-base average. Hannah Wright, who leads the pitching staff with 10 victories and 99 strikeouts, is also the second leading hitter with a .375 batting average and 32 runs batted in. Freshman catcher/outfielder Megan Collins is another top hitter with a .346 average, six home runs, 36 runs batted in, and a team-leading 14 doubles. Sophomore centerfielder and leadoff hitter Taylor Gilliland was lost for the remainder of the season after breaking her wrist last week against Dyersburg State. Gilliland batted .346 and led the conference with a Southwest season record seven triples.
