Victory Media, the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, named Southwest Tennessee Community College to the coveted Military Friendly Schools® list for 2017 and awarded Southwest “Gold” status.

For more than a decade, Military Friendly® ratings have set the standard for companies and colleges demonstrating positive employment and education outcomes for veterans and their families. New this year, Military Friendly® Awards showcase the most powerful and effective programs of all institutions earning the Military Friendly® designation. “All of our Military Friendly® award recipients offer exceptional examples of what it means not just to build a program that meets federal requirements, but one that serves the military community from classrooms to careers," said Daniel Nichols, Chief Product Officer of Victory Media. "Our Gold Award schools take it one step above, representing the 'best of the best'. I'm pleased to recognize Southwest Tennessee Community College for achieving this level of excellence.”

The list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans, and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus. In Tennessee, there were more than 50 schools listed as eligible for Military Friendly® status including private, public, non-traditional and community college institutions. Of those, 16 are community colleges and three were awarded gold status. These schools have world-class programs and policies for student support on campus, academic accreditation, credit policies, flexibility, and other services to those who served.

“Southwest Tennessee Community College is elated to be selected as a Gold Standard Military- friendly campus. As part of the Achieving the Dream vision to redesign, reinvent, and reset our College, we are focusing on innovative ways in which we can better serve our Veteran students”, said Dr. Jacqueline Taylor, Executive Director of Retention & Student Success. “Strategic plans are underway to increase our certifying official capacity in the Advising Center and to create a communal space for these individuals who have sacrificed so much for our nation. Southwest is sincerely dedicated to the holistic success of our Veteran student population and our Gold Standard recognition is a testament to this commitment.
