On July 18th local and regional business owners are invited to discover what it takes to launch their businesses as NASA suppliers, subcontractors or service providers at Southwest Tennessee Community College. The event will be held on the Union Avenue Campus in the Nursing, Natural Sciences and Biotechnology Building Auditorium.

Representatives from NASA's Johnson Space Center, Marshall Space Flight Center and Shared Service Center will share information on their acquisition processes, upcoming bid opportunities and best practices to win a direct contract or subcontract. NASA prime contractors including Boeing, SAIC, DXC Technology (formerly Hewlett Packard), and more will be in attendance seeking new subcontractor relationships with area business owners.

The forum will also include training workshops for those business owners not yet ready for federal contracting on topics such as Small Business Administration (SBA) certifications, registering in SAM.gov and how to write a capability statement.

NASA chose Southwest to host this inaugural forum in Memphis due to the strong business assistance that the Tennessee Small Business Development Center (TSBDC) at Southwest provides for free to hundreds of small business owners in the community each year.

Rory Thomas, executive director of the TSBDC at Southwest shared, "To have Google come to Southwest last year and now NASA this year, really speaks to the value of our program and the valuable asset Southwest is for our community."

The NASA Contracting Outreach Forum will be held from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Southwest's Nursing, Natural Sciences and Biotechnology Building is located at 675 Union Ave. The forum is free, but registration is required. To register, business owners should visit the Tennessee Small Business Development Center-Memphis Center (opens new window) website. For more information, please contact Rory Thomas at 901-333-5085.
