Lady Saluqis win season opener 75-49

The Lady Saluqis dominated in their season opener against the Arkansas Baptist Buffaloes in the Vertie Sales Gymnasium. Dominika Skrocka scored 16 points including four three-point field goals to lead the Lady Saluqis to a 75-49 season-opening win November 1.

Also scoring in double figures were Malera Staples, who had 12 points in only 13 minutes off the bench, and Quinlan Hughes, who recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Saluqis out-scored Arkansas Baptist 63-38 over the final three periods after leading by just one point after the first quarter thanks to outstanding defense and rebounding. They held Arkansas Baptist to just 26 percent field goal shooting for the game and out-rebounded the Buffaloes 62-42.

Other top contributors were Martajah Tyler (8 points, 9 rebounds, 4/4 field goals), Brenda Fields (7 assists, 2 blocked shots), Atitiana Vincent (7 points, 5 rebounds), and Takya Bennett (8 points, 6 rebounds).

The Lady Saluqis return to action at the Verties Sails Gymnasium Saturday at 2 p.m. against the Meridian Community College Eagles.
