Southwest and LaunchCode to offer free computer programming courses for adults beginning Feb 4; applications open now until Jan. 14

Southwest Tennessee Community College will offer   LaunchCode’s LC101 free computer programming courses beginning Feb. 4.  LC101 is a free, part-time, 20-week class for students aged 18 and above interested in learning technology skills, including coding, web development and other career-oriented expertise.  Interested participants and not just Southwest students will meet Mondays and Wednesdays, 6-9 p.m. at Southwest’s Union Avenue Campus, 737 Union Ave., Memphis, Tenn.   

Careers in technology have historically been reserved to those with a four-year college degree in computer science or a related field. LaunchCode’s LC101 course offers accessible training in technology skills to individuals who may not have the time or resources to participate in a four-year program. Participants will learn computer programming skills free of charge and gain access to entry-level jobs in technology or sharpen existing skills.  LC101 provides a supportive classroom environment with in-person mentoring from instructors, teaching fellows, and local developers.
