Southwest Tennessee Community College has appointed Roger Ogden as its new director of athletics, taking over for executive assistant to the president for government relations, Sherman Greer, the departing director of athletics who held the position since 2012.

Ogden comes to Southwest from Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, where he served the past eleven years, most recently as assistant athletic director, director of compliance and sports information director. In addition, Ogden was Lane’s head softball coach for nine seasons and was a two-time selection for the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Coach of the Year (2010 and 2014). Ogden led his 2014 Lady Dragon team to a school-record 20 wins followed by another winning season in 2015. Three of his players were named to the All-SIAC team along with the SIAC Player of the Year and Relief Pitcher of the Year.

“I would like to thank President Tracy Hall, Mr. Sherman Greer, and the search committee for their faith and confidence in selecting me as the new director of athletics for Southwest Tennessee Community College,” said Ogden. “I believe my experience and my faith has helped prepare me for this exciting journey to serve in this role. My main desire for the athletic department and student-athletes are to be champions of character, champions in the classroom first and foremost (graduation and grades), champions in the community (role models and support for the community), and champions in the sports they participate in (integrity, sportsmanship, effort and attitude). Another part of my vision for the athletic department is to grow our fan base and support within the communities we serve.”

Ogden received his Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management from Bethel College (now Bethel University) and his MBA with an emphasis in Sports Management from Nichols College in Dudley, Mass.

Ogden is married to the former Valerie Hathcock of Ripley, Tenn. They have one daughter and son-in-law, and one grandchild.
