Commencement season is in full swing with graduations for high school and college students locally and across the country. Southwest Tennessee Community College is proving that its smallest students are just as deserving of all the pomp and circumstance. Southwest will hold a pre-k graduation ceremony for 17 students on Thursday, May 22, at 9 a.m., on the Macon Cove Campus at 5983 Macon Cove.

The 5 year-olds will receive their diplomas from the Campus Child Care Program to highlight their accomplishment. The graduating class includes students of parents who attend the college, as well as from the community.

LaShonda Lewis, director of the Campus Child Care Programs, says six of the 17 graduates have been in Southwest’s childcare program since they were infants.

“This fact signifies the remarkable trust and bond the Southwest Campus Child Care programs have with our families,” adds Lewis.

“It is also important to note that our program offers high-quality childcare, supports kindergarten readiness, and is available not only to Southwest students but also to the community.”

The next stop for the little graduates is kindergarten.

Southwest is currently accepting applications for the two daycare locations at the Macon Cove (children ages 2½ to 5 years) and Union Avenue (15 months to 5 years) campuses.
