Southwest closes Maxine Smith Center for sanitation; Reopens Friday, Aug. 6

Maxine SmithSouthwest Tennessee Community College has closed the Maxine Smith Center, 8800 East Shelby Drive, for sanitation following a reported case of COVID-19. The Center reopens Friday, Aug. 6. The Center was identified as visited by an individual who submitted a report of a positive COVID-19 test. Employees with duties at the Maxine Smith Center should contact their supervisor for instructions regarding alternate work locations.

The Shelby County Health Department has recommended only closing the areas identified as visited by individuals who self-reported. Other areas of the building will remain open for operations while the College performs sanitation in the affected area in accordance with Back to Campus Plan guidelines and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention standards.

Southwest is performing contact tracing and notifying individuals who may have been in contact with the individual who tested positive.

All Southwest students, employees and visitors who test POSITIVE for COVID-19 are encouraged to self-report online on the coronavirus section of the Southwest website. The form only takes a few minutes to complete and all information will be kept strictly confidential.
