College-wide reporting of positive COVID-19 cases

By Diana Fedinec

positive CasesSouthwest Tennessee Community College maintains full transparency in keeping students and employees informed of positive cases of COVID-19 that impact the College. All self-reported positive cases are reported to Police Services/Public Safety and contact tracing is conducted to notify impacted students and employees. Communications are sent out college-wide regarding when and where the infected person visited Southwest property and the temporary closing of any buildings for sanitization when warranted.  The identities of those reported as COVID-19 positive are not divulged, nor are the identities of those potentially exposed. The College also notifies the Shelby County Health Department of the self-report, but does not divulge the identity of the person in question to the greater Memphis communities.

Additionally, Southwest tracks active and recovered COVID-19 cases for faculty, staff, students and contractors visiting its locations and reports this data to the Tennessee Board of Regents. This data is available for public viewing on the TBR COVID-19 dashboard at https://www.tbr.edu/general/novel-coronavirus-covid-19-information.
